About Jennings Housing Authority
The Jennings Housing Authority is a public housing corporation that was established in 1966 for the purpose of developing and administering low-rent public housing within the city of Jennings, LA. The JHA is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners who are appointed by the Mayor.
The role of the JHA is to provide decent, safe, and clean housing for low income residents at an affordable rent and free from discrimination.
Families generally pay 30% of their adjusted income, less allowances, toward rent, but since their incomes are low, this does not generate enough money to operate and maintain the housing.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development executes an Annual Contributions Contract (ACC) with the JHA to provide operating subsidy to assist in covering the operational expenses when the rent collections from families is inadequate.
The JHA currently owns and operates 166 units of public housing, which are located on four separate housing sites.
